When it rains it's ideal to have a back-up plan for a place to train. And good rainy day training locations are difficult to come by. So when it rains I train under the FDR along South Street from Montgomery St to the Seaport. It's the perfect rainy day location because it's covered and the running surface is smooth. The distance is roughly .91 mile. A bit short. But, not a bad distance to get some tempo work done.

Training Along the East River Park

In June I had devised a workout plan to help me get in shape. I needed a workout that would be good for 10K and half-marathon distances.
For my Tuesday and Thursday training sessions I do the following track workout running the track portions just a little bit faster than race pace:
Run – Warm up 2.65 miles
Track – 400 meters
Track – 2000 meters
Track – 2000 meters
Track – 2000 meters
Track – 1600 meters
Track – 400 meters
Run – Warm Down 2.65 miles
On Wednesday, the day between the track workouts, I run 10 miles at 1 minute per mile slower than race pace.
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings I run 5 miles.
So far it's been good.
UPDATE: I'm not running 5 miles in the morning at the moment.
